Top Turkish diplomat, EU foreign policy chief discuss Ukraine

ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Monday discussed the latest developments in Ukraine.

The discussion took place in a phone call, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement, without giving further details.

Right after Türkiye, the UN, Russia, and Ukraine signed an agreement in Istanbul on July 22 to resume grain exports from the Ukrainian Black Sea ports, Borrell said in a statement that the EU welcomed the deal, which is a "critical step" forward in efforts to overcome the global food insecurity.

"We also commend Turkey for its important role in brokering this agreement and in supporting its implementation," Borrell said.
