ISTANBUL (AA) - Tottenham Hotspur showed support to the victims of the war in Ukraine before their English Premier League match by lighting their stadium in Ukraine's colors prior to taking the pitch against Everton.

There was also a minute's applause at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Everton's Ukrainian defender Vitaliy Mykolenko, who was on the bench, stood for applause to show support to his country.

Tottenham shutout Everton 5-0 as Harry Kane scored twice.

Seventh-place Tottenham have 45 points in the standings and 17th place Everton have 22 points.

Since Russia began its war against Ukraine on Feb. 24, it has drawn international condemnation, led to financial sanctions on Moscow and spurred an exodus of global firms from Russia.

At least 406 civilians have been killed and 801 injured in Ukraine since the beginning of the war, according to UN figures.

More than 1.7 million people have fled to neighboring countries, said the UN Refugee Agency.
