Trump’s inauguration heralds new era for patriotic forces in Western world: Hungarian premier

LONDON (AA) - The inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States marks the beginning of a new era where a “grand offensive can now begin” by patriotic forces in Europe to “occupy Brussels,” Hungary’s prime minister said Monday.

“The Western world now has a patriotic, pro-peace, anti-migration, pro-family president in Washington. In just a few hours, even the sun will shine differently over Brussels. A new president in America, a large EP (European Parliament) group of patriots in Brussels, great enthusiasm, and seasoned patriots who love their homeland. The grand offensive can now begin. I hereby launch the second phase of the operation to occupy Brussels,” said Viktor Orban, speaking at a conference in the capital Budapest.

Suggesting that Brussels is "under occupation by an oligarchy organized by the left-liberal and transatlantic elite," Orban said this is a power system which is not European but global; it is not a democracy, but an oligarchy, and it is not based on the sovereignty of nation states but is federal.

"They’re attacking us because we’re pro-sovereignty. In fact, we’re patriots. They’re attacking us because we demand that the rule of law should also apply to Brussels," he added.

Defining the six months of Hungary’s European Union presidency as the "beginning of a new era," Orban said that “history books this semester will be remembered as the time when Donald Trump and European patriots began the transformation of the Western world.”

Hungary held the presidency of the Council of the European Union between July 1 and December 2024, which rotates every six months among the 27 member states.
