Tsitsipas suffers shock defeat to 18-year-old Alcaraz at Miami Open

ANKARA (AA) - World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas was defeated by 18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz with 5-7, 3-6 sets in round 4 of the Miami Open on Tuesday.

"It was really, really tough. He was playing unbelievable," Alcaraz said about the first set against his rival, adding: "All I can say is I fought until the last ball in the first set [to] come back."

They last played against each other in the third round of the 2021 US Open and Alcaraz upset the Greek player with 6-3, 4-6, 7-6, 0-6, 7-6 sets.

Tsitsipas, 23, reached his only grand slam final at the 2021 French Open and lost the match to Serbian legend Novak Djokovic with 7-6(8-6), 6-2, 3-6, 2-6, 4-6 sets.
