Turkey offers condolences to Iran after train accident

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey offered condolences on Saturday to aggrieved families of victims of Friday’s train accident that killed more than 30 people in northern Iran's Semnan province, a statement issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.

"We convey our condolences to victims’ families and our friend and neighboring country, Iran, [and] wish a speedy recovery to those injured," the statement said.

At least 36 people were killed when two passenger trains collided in Iran's northern Semnan province Friday morning, according to local officials and press reports.

Another 95 people were injured in the accident, according to a statement released by the Iranian Red Crescent.

Iran’s official IRINN news agency reported that the collision occurred at the Haft-Khan train station in Semnan’s city of Shahroud.
