Turkish buildings in Germany attacked by PKK supporters
Mosque, newspaper, football club, culture center targeted
HAMBURG, Germany (AA) – Supporters of the PKK terror group attacked Turkish assets in Germany on Thursday, Anadolu Agency has learned.
A Turkish cultural center, local newspaper and the Turkiye Wilhelmsburg football club in Hamburg were among the targets.
Supporters took responsibility for the attack on the sports club and shared on social media images and videos of the vandalism that involved Molotov cocktails.
Officials at the sports club told Anadolu Agency a worker was sleeping in the building at the time of the attack and "could have died" if the fire had not extinguished spontaneously.
The terror group also attacked the Ali Pasa mosque located 30 kilometers (18 miles) outside of Hamburg.
The mosque’s windows were broken and death threats were left on the walls, local sources told Anadolu Agency.
The PKK is also active in other EU countries including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, the Netherlands and Sweden.
It is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU, and resumed its decades-old armed campaign against Turkey in July last year. More than 300 civilians and nearly 800 security personnel have been since martyred. Approximately 8,000 PKK terrorists have been killed or apprehended.
