ANKARA (AA) - Turkish international defender Merih Demiral will put a signed jersey of Real Madrid star Karim Benzema at auction for earthquake victims in Türkiye.
The 24-year-old also thanked his compatriot Hakan Calhanoglu, an Inter Milan midfielder, for helping to reach out to the 2022 Ballon d'Or winner.
Demiral has been holding a charity campaign for Kahramanmaras quake victims for the last few days, the signed shirts of many star players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappe, have been auctioned for charity.
At least 22,327 people were killed and 80,088 others injured by two strong earthquakes that jolted southern Türkiye on Monday, the country's disaster agency said on Saturday.
The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes, centered in Kahramanmaras province, affected more than 13 million people across 10 provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa.
