ISTANBUL (AA) - Seven suspected members of the far-left Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) terror group were arrested in Istanbul on Tuesday, according to security officials.
Counterterrorism police launched simultaneous operations at eight addresses to capture suspects preparing for new attacks in Istanbul, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
Police also confiscated two pistols and an automatic hunting rifle as well as a large number of bullets, organizational documents, and digital materials during the raid.
The DHKP-C is responsible for a number of terror attacks in Turkey, including a 2013 attack on the U.S. Embassy in Ankara which left a Turkish security guard dead and a journalist injured.
The far-left group is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the European Union.
