Turkish stock exchange hits fresh closing high

Benchmark index surges 1.21% at daily close on Thursday

Türkiye's benchmark stock index hit a fresh record closing high of 8,776.70 points on Thursday, up 1.21% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 gained 106.78 points from Wednesday's close of 8,843.01.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 7.6 trillion liras ($249.1 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 121 billion liras ($3.95 billion).

The price of an ounce of gold was $2,043.10 while Brent crude oil sold for around $80.86 per barrel as of 6.24 p.m. local time (1524GMT).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was at 30.6046, the euro/lira exchange rate was at 33.0050, and the British pound traded at 38.5444 liras.
