ISTANBUL (AA) — The Turkish Super Cup match was abandoned on Sunday after the players of Istanbul side Fenerbahce left the field.
Playing at the Sanliurfa 11 Nisan stadium, the Fenerbahce u19s team left the pitch in the Super Cup match against Galatasaray.
The Yellow Canaries conceded a goal in the first minute against Mario Icardi and walked off.
After Fenerbahce withdrew from the field in the second minute, referee Volkan Bayarslan also abandoned the game and Galatasaray played against their reserves on the field for training.
A decision on the match will be made by the Turkish Football Federation's board of directors.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray players celebrated with their fans in the stands.
Turkish Cup winners Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, who claimed the 2022-23 season Turkish Super Lig title, were to face off in the Super Cup game on Sunday.
The Super Cup was intended to take place at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's capital, on Dec. 29 last year. But it was postponed due to problems concerning organization.
Afterward, the two Istanbul teams decided not to play the match in Saudi Arabia after talks between the Turkish federation, the clubs, and Saudi authorities fell through.
