LUSAKA, Zambia (AA) - The Turkish embassy in Zambia celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye, describing the century as a journey of peace, security, stability, prosperity and development.
Marking the occasion, Turkish Ambassador Istem Circiroglu recounted how the republic was declared based on the principle of peace both at home and abroad by its founding founder, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
"Today, based solidly on a history of many centuries, Türkiye carries on its journey to the new country as we aim to mark it with successes in every field. In our common and only home on this planet, we also strive to further our cooperation, partnership and solidarity and social and cultural interactions with our brothers and sisters in all continents and countries," Circiroglu said at a ceremony in the capital Lusaka.
She said Türkiye considers Zambia a good partner in many areas and is working together with the country in fields including trade, education and sports.
Zambia’s Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Chipoka Mulenga graced the occasion, thanking Türkiye for the resumption of direct flights between Istanbul and Lusaka in 2023 as a sign of the close working ties between the two nations on various socio and economic fronts.
"Türkiye’s presence in Zambia is an indication of its belief in the future of this country," said Mulenga as he commended the role of events such as the Türkiye-Africa Business Forum in the country and the continent's economic development.
Monday's celebration was punctuated by an exhibition of the artistry of Gonca Erim and the music of the Tanini Trio, which held a concert.
