Unusual events seen in 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games

After receiving medals, 2 Georgian athletes sent to their country for doing city tour despite ban due to pandemic

ANKARA (AA) - Some interesting events and scenes have occurred during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Two silver medal winners at the Games, Georgia's Vazha Margvelashvili in men's 66-kg judo and Lasha Shavdatuashvili in men's 73-kg, were sent to their country for doing a city tour despite the ban due to the pandemic.

The Georgian athletes went to the city for sightseeing after the matches were over, reports said.

The athletes, who were banned from going to the city as part of COVID-19 measures, were sent back to their country for breaking the rules.

It is the first time that participants of the Olympics have been stripped of accreditation since the Games began on July 23, according to the organizing committee.


- French boxer protests disqualification

French boxer Mourad Aliev did not leave the ring for about 30 minutes to protest the referee in the match where he was eliminated by disqualification against Great Britain's Frazer Clarke.

Aliev won the first round but was disqualified in the second round by the referee in men's super heavy (+91kg) quarterfinal match on Sunday.


- Olympic champ Daley knits while watching diving event

Tom Daley, an Olympic gold winner in men's synchronized 10-meter platform, was seen knitting while watching women's synchronized 3-meter springboard event on Sunday.

Daley showcases his knits on Instagram and donates the income for a foundation, the Brain Tumor Charity, which supports people with brain tumors.


- Ghana wins Olympic medal after 29 years

Ghana guaranteed its first Olympic medal in 29 years with Samuel Tayki reaching semifinals in men's boxing featherweight (52-57kg) on Sunday.

The West African country had won its last Olympic medal in 1992 Barcelona Olympics, a bronze medal in men's team football.
