LONDON (AA) - Police have confirmed that three people are dead after a shooting in Uppsala, Sweden's fourth-largest city, with the perpetrator still at large, according to media reports on Tuesday.

A large police operation is underway near Vaksala Square in Uppsala after the reported shooting, public broadcaster SVT reported.

Police later confirmed that three people were killed in the attack, while the perpetrator fled the scene on an electric scooter, the broadcaster reported, citing a source.

Earlier, police spokesperson Magnus Klarin said that they had received several reports of loud bangs in the area.

Witnesses told the broadcaster that five shots were heard and people were seen running in different directions.

Train service to and from Uppsala were suspended temporarily, said the transport authority.
