TAIPEI, Taiwan / ISTANBUL (AA) - Alex Honnold, the free-solo climber famed for scaling Yosemite’s El Capitan without ropes, has decided to push back his latest death-defying feat: climbing the exterior of a 508-meter (1,667-foot) skyscraper.

Honnold’s live ascent of Taipei 101, which was supposed take place on Saturday, was postponed due to inclement weather in Taiwan, with low temperatures and an 80% chance of precipitation.

“Because of the weather conditions, we are postponing today’s event,” Netflix said in a statement.

The live broadcast has been rescheduled for Sunday at 9 am local time (0100GMT), according to an updated listing on the streaming platform.

"Sadly it’s raining in Taipei right now so I don’t get to go climbing today ... hopefully the weather improves and I get an opportunity to climb the beautiful Taipei 101," Honnold wrote on US social media company X.

The climb, titled Skyscraper Live, is expected to take 90 minutes. Honnold plans to climb all 101 floors of Taipei 101 completely free solo, without ropes, harnesses, or protective equipment, while being filmed in real time for a global audience.

Netflix said safety was the deciding factor in postponing the climb.

“Safety is always our top priority,” it said, thanking viewers for their understanding as it awaits clearer conditions.
