ANKARA (AA) - Galatasaray signed Italian midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo from Roma on Wednesday.

The Istanbul club registered Zaniolo, 23, to the Galatasaray squad on the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) website, which means he is eligible to play for his new club.

According to the TFF website, Zaniolo sealed a multi-year deal with the Lions that will expire in 2027.

Galatasaray said on Borsa Istanbul that the Turkish club will pay a €15 million ($16 million) transfer fee over five seasons with equal installments that will start on Nov. 15, 2023.

Roma will get 20% of his next transfer fee if Galatasaray sell Zaniolo to another club.

Galatasaray will pay a €900,000 salary for Zaniolo for the rest of the 2022-23 season and the Italian player will get a €2.75 million salary for the other seasons.

In addition, Galatasaray and Roma agreed to play a friendly in 2023 and all of the receipts from the match will be donated to the victims of the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.

Zaniolo played for Roma for four and a half seasons, where he scored 24 goals and made 18 assists in 128 appearances.

Last season, he helped Roma win the third-tier UEFA Europa Conference League title.

Zaniolo also amassed 11 international caps for Italy.
