ANKARA (AA) – An Israeli airstrike killed Hassan Hamad, a freelancer cameraman working for Anadolu, raising the number of journalists killed in Gaza since last October to 175, the government media office said on Sunday.
The body of Hamad, who died in Israeli shelling on his house in the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza, was brought to Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip.
Mohammed Hamad, the slain journalist’s brother, said that he could only recognize Hassan by his hair as there was so little left of him after the attack.
He added that his brother had been on duty since Saturday covering Israeli attacks on the northern Gaza Strip.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation,” said the Gaza Media Office, calling on the international community and international organizations to “deter the occupation and prosecute (Israel) in international courts for its ongoing crimes.”
Flouting a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, Israel has continued its brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip following an attack by Palestinian group Hamas last Oct. 7.
In a year of relentless Israeli attacks, nearly 41,900 people have since been killed, most of them women and children, and over 97,000 others injured, according to local health authorities.
