ANKARA (AA) - The U.S. will "certainly possible" invite Russian president as a guest of next year's G7 summit, President Donald Trump said on Sunday.
Trump told reporters in the French town of Biarritz that it is "certainly possible" he will invite Vladimir Putin to the next summit which will be held in the U.S., according to Bloomberg.
Right after Trump's remarks, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia will "consider" the invitation if received.
The EU made it clear on Saturday that it can "under no condition" agree to Russia's return to the G8. European Council President Donald Tusk said reasons why Russia was disinvited in 2014, are "still valid".
Russia was suspended from the G8 in 2014 due to its annexation of Crimea as well as its political and military support for separatists in eastern Ukraine.
This year's G7 summit is bringing together the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the U.K., and U.S. in Biarritz, where they are discussing tackling inequality, economic, environmental, and foreign policy issues.
