US stock market closes Monday with gains

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stock market ended with gains on Monday.

The Dow Jones rose 213 points, or 0.62%, to finish the day at almost 34,560. The S&P 500 added 27 points, or 0.63%, to 4,433.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, increased 114 points, or 0.84%, to end the session at 13,705.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, dove 3.6% to 15.12, while the 10-year US Treasury yield fell 0.9% to 4.206%.

The dollar index fell 0.06% to 104.01 and the euro rose 0.15% to $1.0817 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold adding 0.3% to $1,920 per ounce and silver increasing 0.05% to $24.23.

Oil prices were mixed, with global benchmark Brent crude flat at $83.93 per barrel, but US benchmark West Texas Intermediate added 0.36% to $80.12.
