US stock market finishes Monday on mixed note

VIX volatility index jumps 8.4% to 13.60

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stock market finished Monday on a mixed note.

The Dow Jones was down 81 points, or 0.21%, to close at 39,431. The S&P 500, meanwhile, lost just 1.26 points, or 0.02%, to 5,221.

The Nasdaq, on the other hand, increased 47 points, or 0.29%, to end the session at 16,388.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 8.4% to 13.60. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 0.3% to 4.488%.

The dollar index shed 0.1% to 105.22, while the euro added 0.2% to $1.0789 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed, with gold losing 1% to $2,335 per ounce but silver increasing 0.14% to $28.21.

Oil prices were up around 1% with global benchmark Brent crude at $83.49 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $79.22.
