West Ham United knock Sevilla out of Europa League

Andriy Yarmolenko's winner in extra time leads his team to overturn 1-0 first-leg deficit against Spanish side

ANKARA (AA) - English Premier League side West Ham United beat Sevilla 2-0 in extra time Thursday to qualify for the Europa League quarterfinals.

Tomas Soucek's goal in the first half sent the match into extra time at London Stadium.

Andriy Yarmolenko found the net in the 112th minute, leading his team to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit against the six-time Europa League winners.

Following Thursday's results, Eintracht Frankfurt, Olympique Lyon, West Ham United, Barcelona, Rangers, Atalanta and Braga reached the Europa League quarterfinals.

RB Leipzig automatically qualified for the next round as their last 16 tie versus Russia’s Spartak Moscow was canceled by UEFA due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

PAOK, Roma, Slavia Prague and Feyenoord booked their places in the UEFA Europa Conference League quarterfinals after their victories late Thursday.

They joined Olympique Marseille, PSV Eindhoven, Leicester City and Bodo/Glimt to secure places in the draw for the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal and semifinal draws for both the Europa League and the Europa Conference League will be held in Nyon, Switzerland on March 18.
