World Games names Ayse Begum Onbasi as Athlete of Month

Young Turkish gymnast impressed judges at World Championships with accuracy

ANKARA (AA) - Ayse Begum Onbasi was named the Athlete of June 2021 on Thursday by The World Games.

Onbasi will receive The World Games Athlete of the Month diploma, according to a statement on the official website.

The World Games said the former Turkish 2016 World Junior Champion impressed judges at the World Championships with her accuracy and she picked up a secondary award for precision.

Onbasi won gold at the 16th FIG Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, in May.

The 19-year-old dedicated her historic win to Turkish women in June.

Nicknamed "The Medal Monster," she has won more than 60 medals as a junior.
