World No.1 Barty advances to Australian Open last 8

ISTANBUL (AA) - World number one Ashleigh Barty defeated Shelby Rogers on Monday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in the women's singles.

Barty, 24, clinched a 2-0 victory against American player Rogers, who is ranked 57th, with the sets of 6-3 and 6-4 at Rod Laver Arena.

Meanwhile, World no. 25 Karolina Muchova from the Czech Republic eliminated no.18 seed Elise Mertens of Belgium 7-6 and 7-5 to reach her first Grand Slam quarterfinals at the Australian Open.

Australian tennis star Barty will face 24-year-old Muchova in the next stage.
