Chinese swimmer Pan Zhanle sets 100-meter freestyle world record at Paris 2024

Pan wins men's 100-meter freestyle final with 46.40 seconds

Chinese swimmer Pan Zhanle broke the world record to win an Olympic gold in men's 100-meter freestyle on Wednesday.

In the final held at Paris La Defense Arena, Pan, 19, swam the 100 meters with 46.40 seconds to break his own world record. It was the first swimming world record of the Paris 2024.

In February in Doha, Pan previously set a world record in this field with 46.80 seconds.

Australian swimmer Kyle Chalmers finished with a time of 47.48 seconds to win an Olympic silver in Paris. Romania's David Popovici took a bronze in 47.49 seconds during the event held in the French capital.

The Paris 2024 will end on Aug. 11.
