Sandro Tonali under investigation by Italian prosecutors amid illegal gambling allegations, English club says

ISTANBUL (AA) - Newcastle United acknowledged an investigation Wednesday into Sandro Tonali for betting on football.

"Newcastle United can confirm that Sandro Tonali is subject to investigation by the Italian Prosecutor's Office and Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in relation to illegal betting activity," the Premier League club said in a statement.

Tonali is fully engaging with the investigation and will continue to cooperate with relevant authorities, it said.

The English football club also said that they and Tonali cannot offer further comment due to the ongoing process.

Sandro moved to Newcastle from AC Milan in July where he won the 2022 Serie A title. He has scored one goal in 10 matches for Newcastle.

The 23-year-old midfielder has 15 caps for the Italian National Team.
